Light-Cure Adhesives, Equipment, and Technologies for MedTech Assembly

Dymax develops, formulates, and manufactures UV/LED light-curable adhesives along with dispensing and light-curing equipment for MedTech assembly. The MD® series of medical adhesives and coatings cure in seconds upon exposure to LED or UV/Visible light for rapid assembly of medical devices, instruments, and wearables. They are designed with no solvents added and are supported by ISO 10993 biocompatibility testing, providing manufacturers with an alternative to solvent-based systems.

Formulations Engineered for MedTech Applications

Dymax light-curable products support:

  • Rapid cure in seconds
  • Assembly of medical plastics, glass, and metal
  • Bonding to difficult-to-bond substrates, as well as UV-inhibited and tinted plastic
  • Precision alignment prior to cure
  • Compatibility with automated dispensing
  • Resistance to common sterilization methods
  • Curing in both light and darkness (HLC™ adhesives)
  • Protection from surface finishing processes (SpeedMask® maskants)
Process Control and Inspection Support

Many products incorporate built-in visual and fluorescing indicators that assist during assembly and quality verification. Color-change formulations transition from bright blue to colorless to help confirm adhesive placement, coverage, and full cure, while blue or red fluorescing adhesives enable post-cure bond-line inspection under low-intensity black light. These features support improved in-line inspection, reduced scrap, and greater confidence in bond integrity, particularly in high-volume medical manufacturing environments.

Meeting Biocompatibility and Regulatory Expectations

Dymax continuously advances its portfolio to meet EU MDR and other global regulatory requirements without compromising performance. The range includes high performance alternatives where TPO is not intentionally added, as well as adhesives for medical wearables, such as continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and insulin pumps, where IBOA is not intentionally added, making them suitable for skin contact applications. All Dymax MD® adhesives meet ISO 10993 5 in vitro cytotoxicity requirements, with additional biocompatibility testing conducted as appropriate for the intended application and market.

Manufacturing Benefits

When implemented as a complete light-cure platform, Dymax MedTech solutions can help manufacturers achieve:

  • Reduced cycle times through cure-on-demand processing
  • Lower work-in-process inventory
  • Improved alignment precision before cure
  • Automation-ready assembly processes
  • Measurable cure parameters to support validation
Enabling Fast, Controlled Dispensing and Light Curing

Dispensing systems complement formulation performance by delivering controlled, repeatable adhesive placement, reducing variability in bond-line thickness and material usage.

Dymax curing equipment and light-curable formulations are engineered to operate as an integrated system, supporting consistent polymerization and repeatable processing. UV/LED light-curing platforms, including BlueWave® systems, provide stable intensity output and reduced heat generation to support temperature-sensitive components.

Radiometers and monitoring tools further support validation protocols and documentation requirements.

Typical Applications

  • Needle and syringe bonding
  • Catheter assembly
  • Airway management devices
  • Single-use plastic components
  • In Vitro diagnostics
  • Orthopedic implants and surgical instruments
  • Medical wearable devices
From Concept to Production

Technical teams collaborate with medical customers from feasibility through scale-up, providing support that includes substrate compatibility testing, cure studies and intensity mapping, process development assistance, and production line implementation guidance. Prioritizing formulation performance and pairing it with matched curing and dispensing technologies supports throughput, process validation, and regulatory alignment.
