Momentive Performance Materials Inc. (Momentive) will present two technical posters highlighting the benefits of the new OphthaSil* silicone polymer product portfolio at the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) Clinical Conference and Exhibition May 29-31 held this year at the Arena and Convention Centre (ACC) in Liverpool, UK. Ophthasil silicone polymers offer contact lens manufacturers new innovations in lubricity, stability and cost-effectiveness.

The first technical poster will address the developments of siloxane materials that are fully water soluble and can be considered for use in contact lens formulations without organic solvents. This enables both a lower cost solution for manufacturers and enhanced lubricity of the hydrogel film. The second technical poster will address Momentive’s development of non-PEG (poly ethylene glycol) alternative siloxane materials that can help provide both inherent wettability and long term material stability to silicone hydrogel contacts lenses.

“Momentive has a 75 year history of leading market-changing developments in silicone technology,” said Hans Winkelbach, Senior Director of Global Marketing at Momentive. “We’ve applied our deep expertise in silicone materials to the contact lens industry in order to develop solutions that address some of the most critical challenges facing manufacturers – cost and comfort. With such a complex product as silicone hydrogel contact lenses, we look forward to developing additional material improvements in the future.”

Representatives from Momentive will be presenting at the show on Saturday, May 30th from 1-2:30 and from 4:30-5:00 during the “Meet the author” session in the exhibitors pavilion. The posters will be available for viewing in the exhibition hall from 1:00pm on Friday, May 29th to 3pm on Sunday, May 31st.
