Fourth building will nearly double production capacity and create 150 jobs
ANKENY, Iowa – Accumold broke ground today on a $33.25 million expansion of its Ankeny campus, adding a fourth building that is expected to nearly double production capacity and support the creation of 150 new jobs.
The approximately 53,000-square-foot expansion will help the precision micro injection molding company meet increased customer demand. Construction is scheduled to begin this month, with completion expected in February 2028.
Accumold, which has a total workforce of 425 employees, has added more than 100 employees this year. When completed, the addition is projected to support another 150 jobs.
“This expansion gives us the space, technology and capabilities to keep growing alongside our customers,” said Roger Hargens, Accumold CEO and president. “It is also an investment in Ankeny and in the people whose skill and commitment make our work possible.”
The new building will be used primarily for production and will include new equipment and technology, expanded quality and tooling capabilities, and office and meeting space. The projected new positions will span production, quality, tooling, administration, and other areas.
Like the company’s 40,000-square-foot expansion completed in 2016, this expansion is engineered to resist an EF-5 tornado, enhancing protection for employees and strengthening business continuity for customers. The Weitz Company of Des Moines is the project’s general contractor, and SVPA Architects of West Des Moines is providing architectural services.
Hargens added, “Our customers depend on precision, quality, and a reliable supply of components. As we expand our production capabilities, we are also strengthening our ability to protect our team and support our customers through disruptions.”
Accumold produces complex, high-volume micro components for customers in medical, microelectronics, optics, and emerging technology markets. All production takes place at its Ankeny facility, with shipments sent to more than 30 countries each year.
