Delano, Minnesota: Sil-Pro has announced the purchase of new Sodick Plustech thermoplastic injection-molding machines and the conversion of a Liquid Silicone Rubber machine back to thermoplastics. The increased demands for thermoplastics molding has led
Sil-Pro to more than double their thermoplastics capacity, which will be brought online in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The new 60-ton to 100-ton machines were acquired for their larger tool size capacity as well as larger shot size, allowing Sil-Pro to meet current and future customer demands. The Sodick machines are electric hydraulic hybrid injection molding machines, which allow Sil-Pro to get the control benefits of electric machines while maintaining the injection speed of hydraulic machines. A 5-ton press was converted to thermoplastics from existing production of LSR and will be used support the increased demand for thermoplastics micro-molding.

The thermoplastic presses are located in Sil-Pro’s newly expanded ISO Class 7 clean room. “Sil-Pro’s unique facilities and processes, together with our partner relationships with customers, drives this growth,” reports Tom Shurson, Vice President of Contract Manufacturing. The addition of these new presses will require additional personnel from process engineers to machine operators, which will be added as the equipment is phased into full production.

Sil-Pro is an ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 13485:2003 certified contract manufacturer specializing in molded and extruded silicone, thermoplastics and full-service medical device contract manufacturing and assembly.
