Tigard, Oregon, February 27, 2012 — Richard Allen, president of Plastic-Metals Technologies, Inc. (PMT), an RFI shielding contract manufacturer, announced today the expansion of its services to include form-in-place gasketing services. “This expansion was done with our customers in mind,” commented Allen.  “With the advances in technology and greater demand for electromagnetic shielding solutions, our ability to complete one more critical step in the production process saves our customers time and money.”  Form-in-place gasketing complements Plastic Metals Technologies’ other sub-assembly work which includes pad printing, sonic welding, inserting hardware, heat staking, and product testing.

PMT now uses automated adhesive dispensing systems to apply a number of liquid adhesives and form-in-place gasketing materials.  These materials include conductive RTV silicones which can be designed into assemblies to allow for sealing and grounding of multiple components for continuity across the assembly.  By selecting the proper materials for customer needs, the shielding effectiveness meets the requirements for the MIL-G-83528B, ASTM 4935-89 and JSS 52100 standards.  The disbursement of these materials is ideal onto plastic or metal substrates and automation ensures precise placement (+/- .002”) and bead size (+/- .005”) of the form-in-place gasket as well as uniform resistance continuity along the gasket.

Form-in-place gaskets are especially beneficial in creating effective EMI shields for smaller profile, tight tolerance, or complex structures with little space. Other benefits include short lead times for tooling and low volume production, quick ramp up for larger production volumes, low tooling costs, minimal labor cost, and low to no cost for design changes to gasket location or bead size.

PMT offers several conductive RTV silicone materials to accommodate specific customer requirements including; tensile strength (ranging from 80 to 125 psi), volumetric resistivity (ranging from .003 to .035 ohms-cm), shielding effectiveness (ranging from >70 to >100 dB), and hardness (ranging from 35 to 60 Shore A).

Plastic-Metals Technologies, Inc. was founded in 2002 and produces RFI shielding solutions for medical equipment and devices, electronic test and measurement devices, navigational devices, scanner and data acquisition devices, electronic organizers and notebooks, computer housings, connectors, telecommunications devices, electrical instruments, avionics and aerospace, electronic toys and games, and other plastic electronic enclosures. The company’s Th!nFilm Metallization Process is a unique solution for electromagnetic interference (EMI), radio frequency interference (RFI), electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), electrostatic discharge (ESD), finishes for light diffusion, and cosmetic reflective finishes.
