Perkasie, Penna. – Oct 1, 2013- Within the medical device industry there is a need for new biomaterials
that address the scientific and technical requirements of regenerative medicine applications. Peter D.
Gabriele, Vice President of Emerging Technology at Secant Medical, will discuss at the MedTech
Polymers Conference in Houston, the development and prospective uses of a novel bioelastomer
platform that offers benefits currently unavailable with today’s biomaterials.
Gabriele’s presentation, "A Novel Bioresorbable Polymer Option for Regenerative Medicine", will take
place on Monday, October 14th at 12:05pm at the Reliant Center.
“Within the medical device industry there is a hesitance to adopt novel technologies due to
regulations,” said Gabriele. “However, while being mindful of regulatory compliance, one must also have
the courage to take risks, and at Secant Medical, we understand that those smart risks can create
breakthrough innovations that spark a paradigm shift in biomaterials science. I look forward to sharing
the work we are doing for the research and commercial development of bioelastomers.”
About MedTech Polymers: The MedTech Polymers Conference is the premier forum designed to tackle
the industry’s most critical concerns over the use of the polymers in medical devices and discover new
areas for investment and opportunity. The conference takes place during the PLASTEC Texas tradeshow
event, a problem solving , plastics networking resource held from October 14th- 16th for attendees to
see new products, meet leading suppliers, learn from industry experts and strengthen current
relationships.
About Secant Medical: Secant Medical® designs and manufactures biomedical textiles and other
structures for medical devices. Employing medical fabric engineering technologies, we blend polymeric,
metallic and resorbable biomaterials to create custom, high-performance structures that are used in the
cardiovascular, general surgery, neurovascular, orthopedic and regenerative medicine fields. Built on a
70-year history, we’re committed to the future of biomaterials and their role in the healing process and
are actively engaged in research partnerships to advance next-generation biomaterial development.
