Porex Expands Capabilities with New Facility Centrally Located in Ningbo, China
Specializing in the design and engineering of porous fiber components, the plant manufactures high-efficiency reservoirs for writing instruments and liquid cosmetics products like eyeliner pens, as well as wicks designed for pregnancy tests.
Only five kilometers from the Ningbo port, which the American Association of Port Authorities reports is the busiest seaport in the world by cargo tonnage, the facility is centrally located and easily accessible for Porex's customers in the greater Asia Pacific region and beyond.
“The choice to open a new, larger plant in Ningbo aligns with our core commitment to our customers,” said Rob Carpio III, CEO of Porex. “By making this move, we are in a better position than ever to continue serving 100 percent of the Chinese market and to provide vital support and resources to our global customers beyond Greater China who need the manufacturing expertise provided by the Ningbo team. We are thrilled to open the doors of a plant that will play a critical role in our mission of making the world safer, healthier and more productive.”
Encompassing nearly 100,000 square feet, the new facility provides an additional 30,000 square feet over the previous plant location, creating space for extra equipment. More than 100 employees will occupy the plant with roles including product development engineers, skilled maintenance technicians and operators, fixers and more.
“Moving into the new facility has increased our manufacturing space by more than 30 percent,” said Emma Ma, factory manager at Porex's Ningbo facility. “This expanded footprint allows us to implement more equipment that can help enhance our 24/7 operation of 14 production lines and meet higher levels of volume.”
Porex finalized its move to the new facility in March, meeting its goal of transitioning operations by the Chinese New Year and commencing production in April.
