Medbio, Inc., an ISO 13485:2003-certified contract manufacturer, has purchased a new Arburg all electric machine with a micro-injection module.

Grand Rapids, MI – Medbio, Inc., an ISO 13485:2003-certified contract manufacturer, has purchased a new Arburg all electric machine with a micro-injection module. “This addition will expand our micro molding capabilities”, said John Woodhouse, Sales and Marketing Manager.  “We have been successfully molding very small, intricate components for years, but the medical device industry is designing smaller and smaller devices, and we want to be able to service our customers.”

The New Arburg Micro Molding press will be placed in a certified Class 10,000 clean room, and the current implantable business will be moved into the new molding cell. “We run only Arburgs in our facility. They have outstanding products, and we have built a great working relationship with them” said Ryan Heidenfeld, Process Engineering Manager at Medbio. “It was natural to purchase our Micro-molding unit from Arburg, due to their unique approach to this technology.”

“ARBURG enjoys a productive, long-standing relationship with Medbio and we are very pleased to continue to be a partner in their technology development and part of their continued success“, said John Ward, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for ARBURG, Inc.

The ARBURG micro-injection module is the latest highlight in the field of micro-injection molding and ideal for medical applications with extremely small shot weights (0.05 – 1.0g). The module operates with an 8mm injection screw and is combined with a second screw which is responsible for the preparation and feeding of the melt.

The design of the module enables easy removal of the screws; this is paramount for preemptive cleaning practices.  The two screw principle ensures ‘first in – first out’ throughput of material which is very important to avoid degradation of the material and consequential contamination of the molded parts.

The unique modular platform of the injection unit enables the utilization of a series of standard quick-change screw sizes all the way up to 25mm, and a shot weight range capability of 0.05 – 36.0g. This modularity and flexibility offers a universal application range with high cost effectiveness for Medbio and their customers.

Medbio is an ISO 13485:2003-certified contract manufacturer, specializing in precision injection molding.  They are currently molding Implantable, Disposables Surgical, Diagnostic, and Instrumentation components for the Orthopedic, Cardiovascular, Ophthalmology, Neurology, and Biotechnology OEMs.
