GW Plastics celebrates National Manufacturing Day 2014.
BETHEL, VT – On Friday, October 3rd, GW Plastics opened the doors to their Royalton, VT facility to celebrate National Manufacturing Day 2014. This annual nationwide event (http://www.mfgday.com/) began three years ago to expand public knowledge about manufacturing and its value to the U.S. economy while addressing the skilled labor shortage in our country.
As one of Vermont's largest manufacturers, GW Plastics has a long history of creating jobs in Vermont and providing young people with compelling reasons to live and work locally. "There are very few opportunities for students to be exposed to high-quality manufacturing, and we enjoy opportunities to show Vermont's youth that there are great career opportunities right in their backyard," said Cathy Tempesta, GW Plastics Director of Human Resources. "We're trying to do as much as we can to give jobs to local residents and to boost Vermont's economy."
After hosting Manufacturing Day 2013 at their global headquarters in Bethel, VT, GW Plastics decided this year to welcome the community into their nearby Royalton, VT facility. In addition to thermoplastic injection molding, contract assembly, and packaging, the Royalton facility also houses GW Plastics Tool Division and Technology Center along with GW Silicones. About 30 students, community members, retired employees, and current employee family members were welcomed by Brenan Riehl, GW Plastics President and CEO, who shared a company overview and explained the Royalton plant products and processes. "Manufacturing is absolutely critical to our way of life. As a trusted supplier to global Fortune 500 healthcare and automotive OEM's, the components that we make here help save patient and passenger lives," said Riehl. Tempesta then informed the group about the many exciting career opportunities, internships, and apprenticeships that are currently available at GW Plastics, and the various ways that they help students receive a great education through GW-sponsored scholarship programs and tuition assistance.
Visitors were then supplied with cleanroom gowns, hair covers, and safety glasses, and given an in-depth tour of the operational facilities where they witnessed world-class manufacturing first-hand. "It was absolutely fascinating. I had no idea this level of manufacturing was right here in town," remarked one community member. "I will definitely be coming back next year. I can't wait to see what they've developed and how they've expanded," commented another visitor.
